UK Ammonia Summit

We’re delighted to announce plans to convene the first-ever UK Ammonia Summit on Tuesday 6 October at Central Hall Westminster.

We are convening this Summit in the heart of Westminster due to the emerging political interest in low-carbon ammonia. For example, UK Energy Minister, Michael Shanks, welcomed the establishment of the UK Ammonia Alliance last autumn, and stated:

“Low-carbon ammonia could play a key role in decarbonising heavy industries, while unlocking economic growth for the UK – which aligns with our clean energy mission to deliver energy security, investment and skilled jobs. The launch of UK Ammonia Alliance is hugely welcome, and we will continue to work with industry to assess the benefits and opportunities of low-carbon ammonia.”

The UK Ammonia Summit will be attended by industry leaders, senior UK Government representatives, parliamentarians, regulators, analysts and academics. It will include several keynotes (with Government ministers invited), as well as panel sessions on topics such as infrastructure and delivery readiness, and ammonia as an accelerator of the hydrogen economy. There will also be networking opportunities, including at an informal drinks reception following the Summit.

Ammonia sector networking drinks at the World Hydrogen Summit

The UK Ammonia Alliance was delighted to co-host a networking drinks event with the Ammonia Energy Association and Ammonia Europe at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam.

We were blown away by the huge number of people that attended, which demonstrates the great interest in low-carbon ammonia projects across the world.

The speeches by UKAA Chair Mike Rendall, Ammonia Europe CEO Stephen Jackson, and Ammonia Energy Association Board President Vibeke Rasmussen all highlighted the need for collaboration. The UKAA is committed to supporting our members to develop international partnerships, open up new business opportunities, and also secure policy alignment to enable faster development of the market.

UK Ammonia Alliance Winter Social

Dr Mike Rendall, CTO AFC, speaks at the UK Ammonia Alliance in his capacity as Chair

This week, we were delighted to host our first networking event. Our Winter Social brought together our Founding Members, industry leaders, academics, and government officials.

Together, we celebrated the Alliance’s progress and discussed the transformative role that low-carbon ammonia will play in the UK’s energy landscape and security.

Our Chair, Dr Mike Rendall, Chief Technology Officer at AFC Energy, reflected on our successes since our launch in October, thanked the community for such a warm reception and highlighted the low-carbon ammonia opportunity:

“As many will be aware, ammonia is incredibly versatile – it’s essential to our farmers, manufacturing and defence industries. With low-carbon ammonia, we now have an opportunity to decarbonise these sectors and also use ammonia as a low-carbon fuel, hydrogen carrier, and source of clean power.

“We think this presents a huge opportunity for our country. Amongst our group, we have some very innovative ammonia solutions, and we want to make sure that the UK reaps the benefits of this innovation and of the growing ammonia market.”

The Alliance has ambitious plans for 2026, building on the momentum we have created this year, including the publication of our inaugural policy report in Parliament. We are encouraged by the positive dialogue already underway with officials and ministers.

Thank you our Founding Members for their dedication and commitment, and to our supporters across industry, academia and government.
